I seem to get asked what to eat before boot camp class a lot so I thought it would be a wise idea to go ahead and make a quick blog post about it. Even though knowing what you should before your workout is important it’s also going to important to know what you should eat after boot camp is finished.
When you come to my Napa boot camp sessions you should be fueled up because it’s going to be an intense workout. If you’re on an empty stomach then you’re not going to be properly fueled and you won’t be able to go 100%. Imagine getting ready to race somebody in a car and you don’t have any gas in the tank!
We’re not just doing cardio in boot camp as we are also going to be building lean muscle because it will help tone up your body and also burn a lot more fat. And to build this lean muscle you’re going to want to make sure that you have a good mixture of protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats in your body before and after boot camp workouts.
Nutrient timing suggests that you should be eating a particular ratio of protein to carbohydrates to fats before and after your workout. Studies have found a 2-to-1 ratio of carbohydrates being 2 and protein being 1 to be an optimal intake of nutrients.
An example would be to have a protein shake with around 40 grams of carbohydrates and 20 grams of protein like Prograde Workout or Prograde Protein Powder with some plain Greek yogurt. You could also eat a couple eggs with an apple or banana for example. I usually just recommend a shake because it’s quick and easy to digest.
Whatever you do just make sure you don’t come to boot camp on an empty stomach and make sure you’re fueled up for an intense workout!
